Ko Samui attractions and what to do
To make Samui an attractive holiday island, many activities have been created and many points of interest are easily accessible. For those who do not like to spend all days at the beaches or hotel pools, Samui offer traditional, cultural and sportive attractions.
Angthong National Park
The Angthong marine park consists of 42 small islands and is located between the Thai mainland and the islands of Samui and Phangan. On sunny days it is a paradise for snorkeling and kayaking in the clear blue waters of the park. There are daytrips from Samui to the archipelago. The tour operators pick up their guests from the hotel and offer snorkeling aquipment and food and drinks for their guests. A tour can be booked from all over Samui. The cheapest tour package is 1100 Baht per adult but without kayaking. The park entrance fee of 300 Baht must be added. Other tours are 2000 Baht all inclusive.
There are three elephant camps on Samui, two in Hua Thanon and one in Lipa noi:

- Wang Sao Thong Trecking, Hua Thanon
- Na Mueang Elephant Trecking, Hua Thanon
From the base of the camps (see map), jungle trecks lead to nearby waterfalls and further more into the jungle. Depending on interest and condition, different tours can be booked. At the base camp, there are souvenir shops, food stands and the oportunity to take elephant photos and feed the big and gentle animals.
Wand Sao Thong waterfall, Na Mueang waterfalls, Hin Lad - Hat Lad waterfalls, Tan Rua waterfall are the best falls on Samui island, all located at the mountain sides in the center. Namueang consists of two different cascades. Both can be visited by walking or riding on an elephants back. The access to the jungle lacation is west of Hua Thanon, as well as for Wand Sao waterfall, which can also be reached by elephant trekking.
In summer months the waterfalls are not as attractive as after the rainy season from October till December.
Samui has some nice buddhistic temples (wat), that can be visited. A must see is Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai) the landmark of Samui in the north east near to the airport. Another very interesting temple is Wat Khun Aram in Hua Thanon, home of the mummified monk, which died their sitting and still being in the same position.
Teepangkorn Temple and viewpoint
A very special temple is Teepangkorn on top of a mountain with a gorgeous view over the island and the sea around Samui. The temple can be reached individually by motorbike or with a guided 4-wheel-drive or quad tour. A tall standing Buddha statue is the center of this holy place. Hin Ta Hin Yai
The most popular coastal landmark on Samui is a rock formation south of Lamai beach that appears to look like a male and a female sex organ.
It is easy to find from Lamai or Chaweng by motorbike or by a daytrip tour. It is a touristical place with small souvenir shops and food sellers.
Guided daytrips by jeeps or quad bikes into the jungles of Samui can be booked in Chaweng and Lamai or Nathon. Exploring the islands mountain on unpaved roads and tracks can be fun. But some experience and courage is needed, when driving a quad on difficult soil.
Other adventures are zipline rides or rainforest tree climbing in the deep jungles of Samui center (Canopy Adventures).
Wellness and spa
Samui belongs to best wellness and spa destinations in Asia. The choice of wellness programs and diffenrent spa locations is great and very luxury and individual.

Three golf clubs are inviting golfers for a game to improve their handycaps. All three are beautifully located in a marvelous landscape:
From beach or street food to fine dining, everything is possible on Samui. There are some very good restaurants at nice places near the beach, in a luxury garden setting or on a viewpoint location. Most restaurants are located between Chaweng and Lamai, but there are some good adresses also at Maenam and Bophut.

A must do is a dining on Chaweng or Lamai beach, when the calm and warm breeze of the sea and the candle lights of the restaurants fill the air and make the atmosphere magical. Choices of fresh fish or sea food will be barbecued on the beach and a cool drink refreshes from the passing heat of the day.
Buffalo fights are a traditional activity on Ko Samui. The event is celebrated like a fesival when the musculus and big buffalos are prepared to fight against each others and bring some fortune and money to their owners. There are buffalo fighting stadiums in nearly all villages like Ban Lipa noi, Ban Taling Ngam, Ban Nathon, Ban Lamai and of course Ban Chaweng, where a buffalo fstival is hold every year in May.
The butterfly garden is located at Na Thian (Natien) beach and shows some dozen local and national species of colorful butterflies.
The Samui aquarium shows colorful tropical fishes of south east asia, manta rays, sharks or seaturtles, while the tiger zoo has some adult and young tigers which can be enjoyed during shows and feeding.
Both are located in the south eastern corner of Samui. Opening hours are from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m.
Paradise Farm Park and viewpoint
is a small animal farm with monkeys, birds and deers on the mountain site overlooking the south western part of Samui. There is a pool with a brilliant view and you may climb up to the viewpoint platform to enjoy a spectacular view over Ko Samui and a big part of the Gulf of Thailand. Tour agents offer half day trips to the park.
Snorkeling around Koh Tan
South of Samui there are two smaller islands: Ko Tan and Ko Matsum. Between the two islands the sea is shallow and has corals which make the place ideal for snorkeling. Boats and trips can be booked all over Samui or directly at the southern most piers in Thongkrut and Bang Khao.
